Your Pets Health Needs Can Change with the Season

When I bought my first house, the number-one item on my list of new home "must-haves" was a large, fenced-in back yard, so the dogs I would soon adopt would have a place to run around! I adopted one younger dog and a senior dog, so I have learned about caring for pets of all ages. One thing I have noticed is that my dogs' health needs really change with the seasons. My older dog has a little arthritis, and it acts up more in the cold winter and I have to give him a supplement for it. Both dogs are a little less active in the winter when it is cold, so I have to feed them a little less or they gain weight. I decided to start a blog to share my pet health tips, and I hope you can learn a lot here!

The Scary Signs That Tell You It's Time For The Emergency Pet Clinic

As a pet owner, it is important to make sure that you are well aware of the signs that your pet needs you to schedule it an appointment with the veterinarian. For standard illnesses and problems, you can usually see your regular vet within a few days. Some vets, depending on their schedule, might even be able to see you on the same day. However, there are some situations where you cannot wait for your regular vet and you need to take your pet to the emergency vet clinic. The signs that this is what you need to do are as follows:

Excessively Throwing Up After Every Meal Or Drink

If you have begun to notice that your pet is throwing up every time it eats or drinks, you may have a serious problem. If it is just a one time thing, it could simply be that something did not sit right in its stomach. This is not usually cause for concern. However, if you are keeping track of how your pet is reacting every time it eats or drinks, and you notice that it is vomiting every time, you will want to get it to the closest emergency animal clinic. Your pet may have been accidentally poisoned with bad food or from a chemical that was left out. Sometimes, something as simple as moldy food from the garbage is enough to give your pet a lot of medical problems.

Your Pet Is Not Able To Walk In A Straight Line

Make sure that you are occasionally taking the time to watch how your pet walks. If you notice that your pet is walking in an unsteady manner, that it tends to veer off to one side or the other, or that it is walking into more walls or door frames than normal, you will want to get immediate vet care. This is especially important if this is a sudden change for your pet. There could be a neurological problem that your emergency vet will be able to look for. The sooner you get your pet emergency vet care, the better chance you may have of the problem being corrected.

Just make sure that you are taking the time to find an emergency vet clinic that is nearby and that you can trust. The sooner you locate the closest one, the easier it will be for you to jump and run as soon as you notice that there is something wrong with your pet.
