Your Pets Health Needs Can Change with the Season

When I bought my first house, the number-one item on my list of new home "must-haves" was a large, fenced-in back yard, so the dogs I would soon adopt would have a place to run around! I adopted one younger dog and a senior dog, so I have learned about caring for pets of all ages. One thing I have noticed is that my dogs' health needs really change with the seasons. My older dog has a little arthritis, and it acts up more in the cold winter and I have to give him a supplement for it. Both dogs are a little less active in the winter when it is cold, so I have to feed them a little less or they gain weight. I decided to start a blog to share my pet health tips, and I hope you can learn a lot here!

How To Improve Your Dog's Dental Health

Your dog's dental health is critical. It is something you should always be striving to take care of. It can often be neglected, but it is one area where you must be as diligent as possible. If you're wondering how to take care of your dog's teeth, here are some tips that will help you.

Get Professional Help

Getting professional help is a critical part of your dog's dental care. Dental disease develops very early in pets, and you must take your pet to the vet to get their teeth professionally cleaned as often as necessary.

Your vet will tell you exactly what schedule of dental care your dog should receive. Many pet owners are anxious about getting their dog dental care because it often requires anesthesia.

However, the need for anesthesia is to ensure that your pet is comfortable throughout the entire process. Anesthesia is necessary because your vet is likely to do an x-ray of your dog's teeth to diagnose the dental problems that they may be having. Under anesthesia, your pet will be comfortable throughout whatever dental procedure your vet may need to do.

If you are nervous about your dog getting anesthesia, you should know that your vet will screen your dog carefully to make sure that they are a safe candidate for anesthesia. They will also be closely monitored throughout the entire process.

Clean Your Dog's Teeth

Another important aspect of dental care is home care. You need to ensure that you are doing your part in taking care of your pet's dental health. Be sure to brush your dog's teeth regularly as this is an important part of dental hygiene.

Toothpaste formulated for dogs often comes in several delicious flavors. This will make the process easier as the taste will not be unpleasant for your dog.

Give Your Dog the Right Food

While wet food has a lot of benefits for your pet, giving them dry food as well can have some impact on their dental health. Chewing on harder food can help to give your dog's teeth a mild clean. There are also doggy dental chews and treats available that you can buy to help clean your dog's teeth naturally as well.

Taking care of your dog's dental health does not have to be challenging. All you have to do is make sure that you get regular visits to the vet. Give your dog the right foods to eat and clean their teeth regularly. Reach out to a local vet dental care service to learn more.
